What if every child had the chance to plant a tree and shape the future?

This National Tree Week, Rewilding Roots is delivering a series of tree planting events across Lancaster schools – helping pupils reconnect with nature and create habitats for wildlife right on their doorstep.
Our first event took place at Castle View Primary Academy, where Years 5 and 6 planted trees donated by the Woodland Trust to create a new woodland at the end of the football pitch. The children planted Rowan, Dog Rose, Crab Apple, Hazel, Silver Birch, Hawthorn, and Dogwood – species chosen to attract birds, pollinators, and biodiversity back into the school grounds.
When asked if they thought an afternoon spent tree planting was fun, one pupil summed it up perfectly:
“This wasn’t fun, it was amazing!”
And this is just the beginning. We’re also planting trees at Morecambe Bay Primary School, Lancaster Road Primary School, and St Mary’s Catholic Primary School – all part of our mission to inspire young people and create greener, wilder spaces for learning.
Introducing Liz Edwards – Our New Project Officer
We’re excited to welcome Liz to the Rewilding Roots team! Liz will be working with four schools in the Lancaster City Council district as part of the Where The Wildings Are! project, funded by the Areti Trust. Her role is all about helping schools transform their grounds into thriving habitats for wildlife and outdoor learning.
Want your school to be part of this journey? If you’re interested in joining the Where The Wildings Are! project and bringing more nature into your school grounds, get in touch with us today.
